Brad

Today is Brad's first day as a clinician- he is officially seeing patients.  That is such a scary thing!  I am so worried about him.  Lucky for him, though, he is starting with psych, so it should make things easier for him.  He can learn how to present patients and other basic things in an environment with much less pressure than if he had started with surgery or medicine.  Anyway, everyone keep Brad in their thoughts and prayers this year... it's going to be really rough.

All Alone

There is a problem associated with teaching.. you have summers off. To all you regular workers out there, that might seem awesome and in some regards it is, but when you have a husband in medical school (which means all of your friends are in medical school or working), it can be a little lonely. I have gone to the pool the last couple of days and have been all alone. I watch groups of kids play or parents with their kids and feel kinda sad that I don't have anyone to hang out with. It's only a month into summer and I'm already bored... crap.

Busy Me!

Hello everyone (aka Linda)!  I am so sorry it has been this long, but I have been busy!  At the end of May, I finished school, got a new job, then immediately went out of town for 3 weeks.  Brad and I celebrated our first anniversary in New Orleans (dinner at Emeril's was awesome!) then went to Clarksdale to visit the parents for a couple of weeks.

When we got back to San Antonio, I didn't get to rest before I was busy doing all kinds of things for my new job, camp that I am teaching at this summer, etc.  Then my parents came to Houston, so I went there to see them and stay with my sister-in-law.  That is a quick summary of where I have been and what I have been up to.  I will try to blog more regularly in the future!

One More Week

I only have two and a half more days with students!  After that I have a work afternoon and a luncheon on Friday, but school is so much better without the students!

I wish I had something fun and/or exciting to do over the long weekend, but Brad has to study (his big, huge, life-changing test is Thursday) so we are stuck in San Antonio and I am all alone at the neighborhood pool.  Oh well, I will gladly sacrifice one weekend of fun for a lifetime of happiness.  I am such a good wife!

Can't wait for next week when we go to New Orleans for our first anniversary!  I'm so excited to get out of San Antonio and celebrate our marriage, Brad being finished, and me being finished!

Crazy Week

This week, especially, has been crazy!  Brad got arrested Monday night (no charges, no fines, or anything, but it was a large pain) for PI and spent the night in the drunk tank.  He is going to get it expunged from his record since it was a false arrested.  He was on private property, was not technically drunk, and was never read his rights.  Then Tuesday night was the End of Basic Science Ball.  We got all dressed up and had a really good, really long night.  We were out until 3 or so (I took the next day of work off).  On top of all this, we have had TAKS this week.  TAKS week is the most boring, tiring week of the school year.  You stand around watching kids take a test.  Then in the afternoon, you watch kids watch movies.  BORING!  Hopefully, next week will be much less insane.

Brad

I am worried about Brad.  The pressure is building for him to finish up the classroom portion of medical school and to do well at the end.  This week he has a test Tuesday and a test Thursday.  Next week he has a test Monday and Thursday.  And then the next week he has one last test Monday.  Tuesday the 29th is the EBS ball, then he has one month to study for his Step 1, the biggest test of his life so far.  His Step 1 is scheduled for May 29th, which happens to be my last day of school.  This is going to be a crazy few weeks for Brad.

Stealing from Lauren

This was on Lauren's blog and I thought it was really cute, so here we go!

First Memory:  I remember taking a shower when my mom when I was about 18 months or so.  I remember sitting at her feet and the water poring over me.

First Real Kiss:  That would have to be a kid named Cooper Smith on a church trip to Opry Land in sixth or seventh grade.  It was on a dare, but we "dated" for the whole summer after that.

First Concert: I went to R.E.M. with Allison Duffy and my sister when I was 10.  Unless, you count Raffie when I was like 5 or 6...

First Love:  I guess that would be Tommy Norton.  We dated for 2 years and had a horrible breakup, but now I have Brad, who I love more than anything!

First crush:  I LOVED New Kids on the Block.  They were hot and Madeline and I had all of their stuff: dolls, sleeping bags, lunch boxes, everything.

First thing you think in the morning:  Why do I work at a job where I have to wake up at 5:20 every morning?

First book you remember loving:  Bridge to Terebithia... I sobbed when that book ended because it was just so sad and that was the first time a book really moved me.

First pet: Sicily was the first pet I ever had that was just mine.

First question you'll ask in Heaven:  What is the point of it all?  I mean, there has to be a reason for all of this, but until Heaven I'm not sure any of us are able to grasp the real meaning.

First thing you think of when you hear the word vacation:  No more students, no more school!

First best friend: Goodwyn Heard

Last time you dressed up:  Jourdanton's Prom

Last thing you ate: Leftover Thai food

Last CD you bought:  I can't remember the last time I bought a cd... I got Brad to get me the Across the Universe soundtrack from one of his med school friends.

Last book you read: I am almost finished with Gods and Generals.

Last time you cried: A couple of days ago because my mouth is hurting so bad from the wisdom teeth surgery.

Last movie you saw: Waitress... it was cute

Last time you told someone you loved them: About 15 minutes ago when I talked to Semmes.

Last really funny thing you did:  Went to the mirror maze with Madeline, Curt, Jordan, etc.  It was hilarious.

Last thing you watched on TV: Egypt's 10 Greatest Discoveries on the Discovery Channel... I want to go to Egypt so bad.

Last Halloween costume:  Brad and I were cowboys.

Last concert attended: Tom Petty in Houston

Hope you enjoyed my firsts and learned lots of new stuff about me!

Tomorrow

After all this time off, I am not looking forward to going back to work tomorrow.  My mouth still hurts, I am still taking pain medicine every 4-6 hours, and I am so tired all the time.  But I have to go because the six weeks is quickly coming to an end and I have got to get finished with Julius Caesar.  Luckily, I only have students until 2 tomorrow and then I am coming home and taking a nap.

Tigers game

The four of us (Curt Rakestraw, Jordan Stewart, me, and Josh Itkin) went to high school together.  Ridgeway High School class of 2001 representing in San Antonio!
Brad and I about to enter the Alamodome.
The Memphis Tiger doing his thing on the big screen.
The Memphis Tigers... our seats were really high up, but at least we were there!
This was the scoreboard right before over time.  I couldn't bring myself to take any more pictures after this.  I was just too depressed.

My furry babies

This is Sicily's spot: she is always laying on the couch pillows.
Leffe under the bed trying to look innocent... wonder what she did.
Isn't she just beautiful!?
Leffe in the bathtub... she really likes taking baths.
Leffe when we first got her... she only weighted 12 lbs.

Memphis Game

So last night I went to the Memphis game and was so disappointed.  I still can't believe they lost that game.  Madeline, Jordan, and Curt stayed at my house last night and poor Madeline was just so upset by the whole thing.

On top of it all, my mouth and jaw are still just killing me.  I can't wait for the feeling to come back in my chin and lower lip and for my jaw to just stop aching so I can eat some real food again.

Surgery

So I had my wisdom teeth surgery yesterday.  Currently I am very puffy and cannot feel my chin or lower lip (the doctor called me today and he seemed not to like that I couldn't feel any of my lower lip, including the sides).  During the surgery, I woke up.  At about 1:45 yesterday a doctor was shot by the husband of one of her patients in the parking lot about 200 yards from where my surgery was taking place.  The doctor was killed and happened to be my surgeon's wife's internist.  I woke up while all of this was going on.  Of course, I thought it was just a dream until the doctor confirmed post surgery that it had actually happened.  My right hand is now killing me because I managed to get my iv out of my vein and they had to move it to the left hand after I woke up.

Also, because my jaw is apparently freakishly small, instead of being on the liquid/ soft food diet for 5-7 days, I have to be on it for 2 weeks so I don't shatter my jaw.  Awesome.

This weekend

So on Friday I have my wisdom teeth surgery.  I'm really nervous about it because the oral surgeon said that my case was a 9.5 on a 1-10 difficulty scale.  Yikes!  Also, the Final Four is in town this year and since Memphis is in it, I want to be conscious enough to enjoy the Tigers' 2 wins (really, there is no doubt that they are going all the way).  At least with surgery comes a couple of days off of work at the very least.

Blog Pressure

I used to have a blog, but it has been forever since I wrote anything.  Anyway, now I have a new blog!  Parr girls (and no matter what your last names are now, you will always be the Parr girls to me) this is totally ya'll's fault.  Lots more later!

Oh, and GO REBS in the NIT and TIGERS in the NCAA!
